For pedestrian patios in Ontario, we install a minimum 8-inch compacted granular base plus 1 inch of bedding sand. Driveways require 12+ inches. Proper base depth is the single most important factor in preventing settling and frost damage.
A standard 200 sq ft patio typically takes 3–5 days from excavation to final compaction. Larger projects or those requiring significant grading work may take 1–2 weeks. Weather and permit timelines can also affect scheduling.
Not with our installation method. We use polymeric sand that hardens in the joints, creating a barrier against weed seeds and ant colonies. Re-application every 3–5 years keeps joints sealed and weed-free.
In some cases, yes. If the existing concrete is structurally sound and properly graded, pavers can be installed on top using a modified overlay technique. We assess the concrete condition during our site visit to determine feasibility.
