Most residential automatic gates in the Oakville–Burlington area land between $4,500 and $12,000 installed, depending on gate width, material (wood, aluminum, or steel), and the opener system. A single swing gate with a standard residential opener sits at the lower end; dual swing gates, sliding gates, and commercial-grade openers cost more. Yes — if they're installed for it. We use openers rated for cold-weather operation and set posts below the frost line so freeze-thaw cycles don't push the gate out of alignment. For sliding gates we plan the track location around snow clearing. Most 'gate died in January' calls we get are for systems that weren't winter-rated in the first place.

In most cases, yes. We repair worn or failed openers, misaligned sliding tracks, sagging hinges, broken keypads and remotes, and gates knocked out of level by frost heave. If the opener is obsolete, we can usually fit a new opener to your existing gate rather than replacing everything.

Swing gates suit driveways with room for the gate to open inward and are the most cost-effective option. Sliding gates are better for short or sloped driveways and for winter, since they don't need a cleared arc to open. We recommend one or the other at the free assessment based on your driveway's slope, length, and snow situation.

The gate itself falls under the same municipal fence bylaws as your fence (height and location limits, especially on corner lots). The electrical supply for the opener must meet Ontario electrical code — we coordinate that as part of the installation so the system is safe and compliant.
